Centennial Software Introduces Security.Advisor To Help Companies Identify Network Vulnerabilities
Add-on to Centennial Discovery uncovers software and firmware vulnerabilities across the network for increased security
November 14, 2006 - Centennial Software, developer of IT asset discovery and endpoint security solutions, today announced the availability of Security.Advisor, a comprehensive new solution for detecting and prioritizing network software and firmware vulnerabilities. With Security.Advisor, Centennial sets a new bar for effective governance of the IT estate by combining 100 percent network discovery with vulnerability assessment, ensuring that vulnerability scans are performed on all machines for total network protection.
Vulnerabilities identified by Security.Advisor can take many forms such as greynet applications (unwanted games, P2P applications, hacking tools etc) and software and firmware not on the latest patch. By comparing the live information in Centennial Discovery's asset repository against a comprehensive database of known threats, Security.Advisor helps administrators pinpoint risks down to individual PCs and devices.
"Addressing the problem of network vulnerability begins with an accurate and up to date awareness of the hardware and software on your network," said Andy Burton, CEO of Centennial Software. "With Security.Advisor, Centennial Software is helping companies make intelligent security decisions about the massive amount of software on their network by highlighting risky applications. It's about enabling effective governance of the IT estate and security is a key component of that."
Available as an add-on component to Centennial Discovery 2006 Feature Pack 1 - also available today, Security.Advisor allows administrators to fully customize the vulnerability management for their organization. Comprehensive reporting makes it easy to identify vulnerabilities across the entire network or on a machine by machine basis. Combined with the latest version of Centennial's Discovery.Visual network mapping add-on, Security.Advisor can produce dynamic color-coded maps of the network, highlighting the areas of highest risk.
According to the March 4, 2005 Gartner report Vulnerability Assessment Vendors Expand to Vulnerability Management, by Amrit T. Williams and Mark Nicolett, "Vulnerability assessment is an essential component of an organization's security program. It provides the foundational baseline and discovery data as the first step in the vulnerability management process. Organizations that require network-based security auditing functions should look to these vendors for robust breadth and depth of coverage against known and emerging vulnerability threats."
Security.Advisor is available immediately as a software license and annual service fee and requires Centennial Discovery 2006 Feature Pack 1. For more information on Security.Advisor visit www.centennial-software.com/securityadvisor.
Centennial DeviceWall 4.0 Improves Enterprise Endpoint Security and Assures Mobile Data Integrity
– Centennial Software’s DeviceWall 4.0 delivers comprehensive portable device management, mobile data encryption and desktop security –
Portland, Ore. — March 13, 2006 — Centennial Software, a developer of endpoint security and IT asset discovery solutions, today announced the availability of DeviceWall 4.0. Designed to help organizations manage desktop endpoints and the usage of portable storage devices (iPods, USB sticks, PDAs, etc.) on the corporate network, DeviceWall 4.0 is taking endpoint security a step further by automatically encrypting information leaving a desktop to ensure the security and integrity of data in transit. Furthermore, the company has integrated new anti-tamper technology, expanded device class support, and added new management and customization features.
The highlight of DeviceWall 4.0 is the ability to automatically encrypt all data copied by authorized staff to a portable storage device (such as a USB flash drive) – securing what has traditionally been a highly insecure storage format. Leveraging industry-standard AES and Blowfish 256-bit ciphers, together with corporate and personal keys, DeviceWall 4.0 protects data in transit and ensures that sensitive company files do not end up in the wrong hands.
“Left uncontrolled, portable storage devices are a massive security risk to an organization, which can render millions of dollars of IT security investment useless,” said Andy Burton, CEO of Centennial Software. “Relying on perimeter security solutions will not stop unauthorized computer users from removing files directly from company PCs, or employees from accidentally misplacing USB sticks or other devices. The threat of internal data leakage can be easily remedied by companies controlling and managing network endpoints – DeviceWall delivers that control and now ensures the security of corporate data should it leave the network via a portable storage device.”
Security expert and founder of Sharp Ideas, Abe Usher, noted, “The encryption of corporate data in transit ensures that employees who have a legitimate need to use portable storage devices don't pose a security threat to the organization. With this and other new features in DeviceWall 4.0, the product has evolved from simply protecting and managing portable device access to offering a comprehensive solution that delivers device management, data management and desktop security."
The new version also delivers granular control over the use of different types of removable media devices for those administrators who want to build ‘white lists’ of corporate-approved devices. Centennial has also added support for Symbian Smart Phones and a new policy wizard that helps customers get up and running in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, new anti-tamper technology has been integrated with DeviceWall 4.0 to ensure application integrity.
A free 30-day trial of DeviceWall 4.0 is available from www.devicewall.com. Use reference" 2G Tech "in download.
